Our Vision

In 2020 the Victorian Government commenced a Royal Commission into Mental Health. The independent Royal Commission synthesised over 12,000 submissions, from all stakeholders including mental health professionals, carers, and hundreds of people with lived experience. As a result, there are now 65 recommendations that could change the way we treat mental health care in Australia.

In the same year, the Productivity Commission released their own Mental Health Inquiry Report. The Commission estimates that the cost to Australia from mental ill-health is around $200 to $220 billion per year. According to Commissioner Stephen King, it's the size of approximately one-tenth of everything Australia produced in 2019.

To create a more humane and thriving society, the Australian government recognises there is an urgent need for significant mental health reform. But Australians need more than recognition. We need practical, holistic solutions that dismantle the long lines, huge costs, and many barriers to quality care. And we need them as soon as possible.

Australians can no longer afford to wait for quality mental health care. With your support, we can ensure every Australian has access to the care they need, when they need it.

Join Australians for Mental Health and demand the Australian Government adopt and implement the key recommendations for mental health reform.
